Textile dyeing fastness is the most asked question of all dyeing queries. Dyeing fastness is a high quality requirement for dyed and printed fabrics. The nature or degree of variation in the dyeing state can be expressed in terms of dyeing fastness. It is related to yarn structure, fabric organisation, printing and dyeing methods, dye types and the size of external forces.

Different colour fastness requirements can cause significant cost differences and quality differences. This time take a look at six common colour fastnesses and their control methods!

Six main textile fastnesses

1.Sunlight colour fastness

Sun fastness refers to the extent to which a coloured fabric is discoloured by the action of sunlight. The test method can be used sunlight sunlight can also be used sunlight machine sunlight, sunlight after the fading degree of the specimen and the standard colour sample for comparison, divided into 8 levels, 8 levels of the best, 1 level of the worst. Poor sunlight fastness of the fabric should not be exposed to sunlight for a long time, it is appropriate to put in a ventilated place to dry in the shade.

2.Rubbing Colour fastness

Fastness to rubbing refers to the degree of colour loss after rubbing of dyed fabrics, and can be divided into dry state rubbing and wet state rubbing. Fastness to friction is evaluated by the degree of colour staining of the white fabric and is divided into 5 levels (1~5), the larger the value, the better the fastness to friction. The higher the value, the better the rubbing fastness. The service life of fabrics with poor rubbing fastness is limited.

3.Washing Colour fastness

Washing or soaping fastness refers to the degree of colour change of dyed fabrics after washing with washing liquids. It is usually assessed using grey graded sample cards, i.e. relying on the colour difference between the original sample and the sample after fading. Washing fastness is divided into five grades, with grade 5 being the best and grade 1 the worst. Fabrics with poor washing fastness should be dry-cleaned, and if wet-cleaned, extra attention should be paid to the washing conditions, e.g. the washing temperature should not be too high and the time should not be too long.

4.Ironing Colour fastness

Ironing fastness refers to the degree of discolouration or fading that occurs when dyeing fabrics are ironed. This discolouration, the degree of fading is to iron at the same time to other fabric staining to assess. Ironing fastness is divided into 1 to 5 levels, with 5 being the best and 1 being the worst. When testing the ironing fastness of different fabrics, the temperature of the iron should be chosen for the test.

5.Perspiration Colour fastness

Sweat fastness refers to the degree of colour loss of dyed fabrics after they have been soaked in sweat. The fastness to perspiration varies due to the composition of the artificially prepared perspiration and is therefore generally assessed in combination with other colour fastnesses, in addition to being measured separately. The fastness to perspiration is divided into 1 to 5 levels, the greater the value the better.

6.Sublimation Colour fastness

Sublimation fastness refers to the degree of sublimation that occurs in the storage of dyed fabrics. The fastness to sublimation is assessed with grey graded sample cards to assess the degree of discolouration, fading and white cloth staining of the fabric after the dry heat pressing treatment, and is divided into 5 grades, 1 being the worst and 5 being the best. Normal fabric fastness to dyeing is generally required to reach 3 to 4 levels in order to meet wearing needs.
